Five Wrong Modes of Operating Shot Blasting Machines


The shot blasting machine uses the blast wheel to shoot high-velocity shots to clean or strengthen the casting surface. It can also have shakeout, decoring and cleanup surface treatments of the casting at the same time. Compared with other surface treatments, it is faster and more efficient. It can partly retain the casting process after stamping.

The United States made the first shot blasting machine in the world in the 1930s. In China, it began in the 1950s.

The shot blasting machine can be used to remove rust and other substances. It can also remove surface contaminants of partial coating and provide a coating surface with increasing adhesion, which can strengthen the work piece.
  
Both the sand blasting machine and the shot blasting machine belong to equipment that are used to remove rust and improve the surface roughness. Here are three differences between them.

Firstly, their working principles are different. The sand blasting machine uses the air as the driving force to stamp the surface of the casting. However, the shot blasting machine uses electric power to clean the surface of the casting.

Secondly, they use different materials to stamp the surface of the casting. The sand blasting machine uses materials such as corindon and corundum which are with relatively high hardness. However, the shot blasting machine uses metal materials with relatively special shapes.

Thirdly, the hardness of the castings after the treatment of the sand blasting machine is different form that after the treatment of the shot blasting machine. The casting's surface after treatment of shot blasting machine is relatively hard, because the shot blasting machine has the hardening effect while the sand blasting machine doesn't have this effect. Due to the sand blasting machine causing great pollution to the environment, its use has been gradually restricted in recent years.

Although the operation of shot blasting machine is not very complicated, there are still some concerns worthy of note.

1. Abrasive materials are not added in time.
The shot blasting machine uses the blast wheel to shoot steel shots to process reorganize the casting’s surface. The abrasive materials are consumables; they would reduce during the working process of the shot blasting machine. When the abrasive materials are in shortage, the circle of improved separation can not be completed, which would affect the quality of shot blasting.

2. Operate the shot blasting machine in the wrong order.
Fail to operate the shot blasting machine according to instructions. Do not turn on the abrasive material feed inlet timely after operating the shot blasting machine, which causes the operation of the shot blasting machine without any abrasive materials.


3. Stop the shot blasting machine in the wrong order.
Turn off the shot blasting machine early so that the abrasive material would keep getting into the blast wheel, which will easily cause the burning of the electrical motor in the next operation of the machine time.

4. The transporting velocity of the roller bed of the shot blasting machine is too high or too low.
The transporting velocity of the roller bed of the shot blasting machine can be adjusted. If the user does not adjust it according to the instructions, the transporting velocity will be too high or too low, which will influence the quality of shot blasting.

5. The belt of the elevator becomes slack.
The elevator has the tightening devices inside for the belt. If the belt is not tight enough, the devices can be used to make the belt tight again. When the belt is slack, the elevator can't raise the abrasive materials, which will easily make the shot blasting machine break down.
